Companies support charities amidst natural disaster
When a natural disaster hits, every minute and every donation counts. Make sure your company makes a difference with its giving program.
Since the start of 2016 Australians have responded to natural disasters with significant generosity, and our companies have been no exception.
Local charities provided critical relief to Western Australians in the wake of fire devastation in January. More recently, aid and development organisations mobilised around one of the most severe tropical cyclones to ever hit the South Pacific.
Australians dig deep with donations at times of crisis, and our companies too increasingly lend a helping hand. Over the past three months, dozens of Good2Give corporate clients mobilised corporate and employee donations in order to support disaster relief and recovery efforts.
Using Good2Give’s Workplace Giving Platform Australian companies were able to setup disaster appeals within hours of news breaking. Raising thousands of dollars, these appeals funded charities including Australian Red Cross, UNICEF Australia and Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR).
CEO Lisa Grinham said, “It’s wonderful that workplaces are getting quicker at mobilising themselves to ensure their employees’ support goes further.”
The majority of Good2Give’s clients matched employee donations during this period and raised internal awareness within the first week of the disaster. This includes companies such as EY, Shell, Boronia Capital, Cuscal, Konica Minolta and South32.
EY Chief Executive Officer and Regional Managing Partner Oceania Tony Johnson, commented on the importance of egiving solutions to be able to quickly setup and manage a workplace giving appeal for employees.
“Matching employees’ donations to a number of charity appeals and processing an influx in employee support can be incredibly challenging to mobilise disaster support quickly and efficiently,” Johnson said.
“It’s great to support our employees goodwill and ensure our workplace giving program is utilised when needed most.”
