#GivingTuesdayNow – the global giving day on Tuesday 5 May 2020
#GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement which originated in the USA in 2012. It occurs on the Tuesday after Black Friday and Cyber Monday in response to the huge amount of money spent during these days.
However, this year #GivingTuesdayNow is an additional giving day taking place on 5 May 2020, as an emergency response to the unprecedented charitable need caused by COVID-19.
In this time of uncertainty, there’s a fundamental truth that gives us hope – that together we can do extraordinary things. Over the past few weeks and months, the entire world has been coming together to stand up, help out, give back, and heal. Whether that’s through donations to community projects, celebrating doctors and nurses at shift changes, or reaching out to a neighbour to help with groceries, generosity has been helping the entire world get through this global pandemic. Together.
On 5 May 2020, #GivingTuesdayNow will bring all sectors together for a global day of unity. We invite you and your organisation to join us, in whatever way works for you, to rally support, thank your community, and encourage generosity in all forms. Let’s rally. Together.

Mapping generosity around the world
The #GivingTuesdayNow organisation has also built a map to highlight all of the generosity happening worldwide in response to COVID-19. Share your personal story of giving back to help cover this globe with kindness.
We would also love to hear your stories about how your organisation has been responding to COVID-19. Tag us on Social Media or send us an email.
Do I have to fundraise?
Not unless you want to! Just like #GivingTuesday, #GivingTuesdayNow is not a fundraising day, it’s a global day to unleash generosity of all types. This is a day to celebrate the creative ways humans around the world have been helping each other during the pandemic, as well as to rally support for organisations and individuals who are impacted by COVID-19.
I don’t want to ask my supporters for money. How else can my organisation participate?
Lots of different ways and just as with our regular annual event, #GivingTuesdayNow is a great time to be creative. Thank your donors, use the day to share stories from your own organisation and others in your community who have been stepping up to help others in this time of unprecedented need.
Can donations be matched?
That depends on your organisation. Many businesses across Australia do already have dollar-for-dollar matching programs, or they may have grant programs in place to assist community groups or small businesses. Check with your CSR Manager. If it’s not something your organisation is currently doing, then Good2Give can help to set this up. Contact us to find out more.
