Get healthy at home and set a fitness challenge with a deadline
The World Health Organisation is urging us all to join their #HealthyAtHome challenge. The COVID-19 pandemic means that many of us are staying at home and doing less in terms of social interactions and exercise. This can have a negative effect on our physical and mental health.
So, we thought a good idea while keeping fit and active is to turn it into a little bit of fun and fundraise for a cause you care about at the same time!
What sort of exercise can I do?
Here are some of the ways in which you could get fit from your home, garden or local area:
- Running
- Walking
- Biking
- Swimming (if you live close to a beach and your local council allows swimming in the ocean)
- Interval workouts
- Weights
- Stairclimbing
- Pilates
- Yoga
- Circuit training
- Martial arts
Can I fundraise whilst exercising?
Absolutely. Good2Give, in partnership with GoFundraise, has created a free DIY fit-from-home fundraising page which you can set up anytime.
Follow these steps:
1 | Decide on an exercise
2 | Connect to your fitness app (Fitbit or Strava)
3 | Create your own fundraising page, which is easy to set up
4 | As you exercise, your fitness app will track your progress and display on your fundraising page
5 | Share your page with work colleagues, friends and family
Perhaps you could even create fitness challenges for your team at work, for a group of friends or for your whole family!
You can also set this up via the Good2Give Workplace Giving Platform as this enables you to make a pre-tax donation to a fundraising page. Your employer may even match your donation, doubling your impact!
Should I set myself a deadline to complete my exercise challenge?
Yes! Your deadline can be whenever you choose. We recommend not setting targets too high or for too long. Any activity is better than none, and during these challenging times we are all looking for ways to be active and to reduce the time spent sitting for long periods.
We love the story about British veteran, Tom Moore, who set himself the target of walking the 25 metres around his garden 100 times before his 100th birthday on April 30. Tom has raised in excess of $30 million for the British National Health Service.
Use #GivingTuesdayNow as a challenge start date or end date
Have you heard of #GivingTuesday? It is a global generosity movement originating in the USA in 2012. It occurs on the Tuesday after Black Friday and Cyber Monday in response to the huge amount of money spent during these days. However, this year #GivingTuesdayNow is an additional giving day taking place on 5 May 2020, as an emergency response to the unprecedented charitable need caused by COVID-19.
#GivingTuesdayNow is a global day of giving and unity. The day is designed to drive an influx of generosity, citizen engagement and support for communities and charities around the world. It’s a day when we can all come together and give back in all ways, no matter who or where we are.
For more information visit our #GivingTuesdayNow resources webpage.
