5 Days of Giving: Day 5 Give Goods

Today’s challenge is to organise a drive – and see how a little effort can make a big difference!

Organising a drive – be it for food, basic goods, or items for children – is an easy way for your colleagues to support those in need and feel great in the process.

Here’s how to make it happen in 5 easy steps:

  • Step 1:
    Choose a charity to support

Perhaps you want to collect women’s essentials for an organisation like Share the Dignity, non-perishable items for Foodbank, or children’s learning materials and toys for the Daystar Foundation.
  • Step 2:
    Contact the charity
Give your chosen charity a call and tell them what you’re planning. They can let you know if a drive is something that would help them out. If they are keen to go ahead they may be able to let you know exactly what they need, how to go about delivery, and tips for running a successful drive.
  • Step 3:
    Get the word out
Set up a collection space (a few strong containers with clear labels in a highly visible place will do the trick) and then get promoting  through as many channels as possible – posters, emails, newsletters, social media. Engage your colleagues by creating competitions between departments or floors to see who can donate the most.
  • Step 4:
    Make workplace giving an option
If people would prefer to donate money instead of goods, encourage them to jump onto the Good2Give Workplace Giving Platform and make a one-off or ongoing donation.
  • Step 5:
    Wrap it up
Contact your chosen charity to organise drop off of goods collected, and
thank your colleagues for helping to make a difference. Let them know how much was collected, and remind them how it will benefit those in need.
