It’s time to contribute to the clean air supply of the planet and get your green thumb busy.

The image of a tree hugger may be funny to some, but trees are vital to our existence. They create oxygen for us to breathe and filter the soil, removing it of pollutants and chemicals. With no trees, there would be no us.

According to WWF, around 17% of the Amazon rain forest has disappeared in the last 50 years, with forest conversion for cattle ranching mostly to blame. And deforestation continues around the world.

The use of palm oil in just about everything, means rain forests in Indonesia and Malaysia are being wiped out.

If all the trees disappear, we will have to say good-bye to some other products instead. Books, benches, musical instruments, toilet paper and coffee filters to name a few.

Ready to turn green?

So, here are some ways you can get planting, and give back to Mother Earth.

  • Greening Australia take on volunteers for bush regeneration, Green Teams, and even offer corporate days where you can get out of the office and back to nature.
  • Trees For Life works in South Australia, and takes on volunteers to grow native plants and to conserve bushland.
  • Head down to your local garden centre and spruce up your garden.
  • Buy a new pot plant for the office.

To celebrate #GivingTuesday, we are asking Australians to give a little each day and then share their efforts with a photo or post on Facebook or LinkedIn. All you need to do is tag @good2give #GivingTuesday with your post.
