#28WaystoGive | Donate rewards or points

Most of us have at least one rewards card gathering points. Almost all shops offer them to us these days. With each purchase, we collect points, which encourage us to spend on our next purchase. It’s easy money. But did you know that you can convert these points into value for charity? Here’s how.

Our wallets are stuffed full of cards and no matter where you shop, fly, stay or spend – organisations want to reward you for your loyalty. There are many ways you can turn your loyalty into charitable value.

Flight points

With Qantas, 2,900 points equate to $25 to charity. You can give to a number of good causes online, including Fred Hollows, the Make A Wish Foundation and Unicef. Virgin Australia allows you to donate a similar amount for 4,500 Velocity points, helping charities such as Care Australia and the Red Cross.

Shopping points

Flybuy points can be accumulated by shopping at Coles, Target, Liquorland and Kmart and you can easily pass these onto a good cause online. Charities that will benefit from your Flybuys include Cancer Council Australia, Redkite and Guide Dogs Australia. 1000 points equates to a $5 donation.

Credit card points

In January 2017, Good2Give started providing the technology solution that enables National Australia Bank’s NAB Rewards members with the option to donate their rewards points to the largest number of charities attached to any Australian bank credit card rewards program.

NAB Rewards customers can support 100 charities across fields such as mental health, children and young people, animals, people with disabilities, health and wellbeing, overseas aid and development, medical research, the environment, emergency services, Indigenous, welfare, and arts and culture.

ANZ runs a similar program, where you can donate points to the Red Cross, Unicef and the RSPCA. 4,685 Reward Points equates to a $25 donation.

If your rewards card doesn’t let you donate directly to charity, why not use your points and then donate the savings directly to your favourite cause?

To celebrate #GivingTuesday, we are asking Australians to give a little and then share their efforts with a photo or post on Facebook or LinkedIn. All you need to do is tag @good2give  #GivingTuesday with your post.
