How to use fundraising to stay connected during COVID-19

We are all doing what we can to stay safe and healthy during COVID-19, but social distancing comes with a lot of new challenges. How do we create fundraising events while everyone is working from home?

Through Good2Give and GoFundraise’s joint venture Fundraising at Work, you can create virtual events to unite your teams and support worthy causes. If you work for an organisation that has a fund matching budget, your donations will go even further for your chosen cause.

There are a number of activities that people can undertake to support charities at work. Traditional fundraising events like morning teas can be done through video calls and physical challenges like walking, running or cycling can all be done remotely. Participating in an event and raising money together while working from home can also be a great way to boost morale during such a challenging year.

Create a virtual fitness challenge

A popular type of event in 2020 is a team virtual fitness challenge. Making time for our physical health and mental wellbeing is so important during isolation and creating a fundraising event as a team is a great way to stay connected and encourage a healthy lifestyle all while raising money for your chosen cause.

All you need to do is create a fundraising page on the Good2Give Workplace Giving Platform using  GoFundraise. Once you create a team page, you can connect with Fitbit or Strava to track kms, steps or other fitness metrics. Have some fun with it, maybe challenge your team to reach a fitness goal every day, you could walk 10,000 steps, or climb 10 flights of stairs, get inventive and raise much needed money for charity at the same time. Creating friendly goal-setting builds a camaraderie to help motivate your team, it could be about fitness goals or amount raised, keep it light, fun and focused on the team spirit.

Donate from your pay to be eligible for fund matching

When you create a fundraising page for a charity that is on the GoFundraise and Good2Give platforms, you’ll be eligible for fund matching by your employer. To donate from your pay and receive potential fund matching, you will be redirected to the Good2Give Workplace Giving Platform. Your fundraising page can be shared within your company and to people outside of your organisation. Your friends and family can donate via credit card or PayPal.

If you are a corporation that wants to customise your campaign, GoFundraise can work with you to create an event that matches your brand and allows teams to compete. You can view an example of a customised fundraising site GoFundraise created for ACCOR.

Your fundraising event will make a difference

By creating a fundraising event during COVID-19, you will not only be connecting colleagues and encouraging a healthy lifestyle, you will also be helping not for profit organisations who are struggling to survive the pandemic. Almost every charitable organisation has experienced a direct or indirect impact from the pandemic and would appreciate any funds you help them raise, no matter how big or small.
